Understand Your Aggregate
Your BECE aggregate is the sum of your best 6 subject grades. Grades range from 1 (Excellent) to 9 (Fail). A lower aggregate means better performance. Aggregates between 6–36 are generally eligible for SHS placement.
School Categories
Category A schools are top prestige schools with high cut-off aggregates. Category B schools are good schools with moderate requirements. Category C schools are standard schools accessible to more students. All categories offer quality education.
Choose the Right Programme
General Science is ideal for Medicine, Engineering and Pharmacy. General Arts suits Law, Economics and Social Sciences. Business is great for Accounting and Commerce. Visual Arts, Home Economics, Agriculture and Technical are also excellent career paths.
Consider Location
Boarding schools provide a structured environment away from home distractions. Day schools allow you to stay with family and save costs. Consider travel time, accommodation costs and school reputation when choosing.
CSSPS Placement Tips
The Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) allows you to choose up to 6 schools in order of preference. List your most preferred school first. Ensure your choices are realistic based on your aggregate score.
